另一位我認為英文寫得好的作家是金融時報The Art of Life的專欄作家Enuma Okoro。她的文字簡潔,表達清晰,訊息有趣味性,關於藝術與人生。在此,我節錄她其中一篇名為The Pleasure Principle的文章的其中一段讓大家看看:
“I’ve recently discovered the watercolour paintings of the 35-year-old Brazilian artist Marcos Beccari. Whether the painting depicts a person fallen asleep while reading a book, their peaceful face illuminated by the glow of afternoon sunlight pouring indoors, or tilting their head back to get the last drops of a good cup of coffee, the people in his figurative art often seem caught unaware by the artist. They are in the middle of some mundane activity that has captured them fully in the present moment, in the midst of experiencing pleasure.
I’m drawn to his 2019 painting, “Having Coffee”, because of the simplicity of the subject matter. He has taken something so many of us experience regularly and without fanfare — a morning cup of coffee — and shown it in a new light. A woman is sitting curled up at the edge of her couch in comfortable day clothes, what most of us have been living in during the past two years. She holds a teaspoon in one hand, as she raises the mug in her other hand to her lips, tilting her head all the way back to capture the last drops.
It is a small and simple act. But in this frame, lit by the morning sunshine flooding through the window behind her and casting shadows on her face and sweater, it is a moment of delight we can all recognise. With it, we celebrate how our senses invite us to dwell in a present where everything is heightened, where we can welcome and receive every drop or thin thread of pleasure awaiting us. The moments add up, shaping our days — and, I suspect, our lives.”
我很喜歡這段文字,不但可以欣賞藝術畫作和美麗的文字,而且讓我感受到藝術如何與(我的)人生有關。
